Description

Salary: The salary range for this position is CAD $45.46/Hr. - CAD $52.61/Hr.
Summary:
Medical Affairs is the branch of Providence Health Care (PHC) responsible for the management and oversight of the relationship between PHC and all medical staff (physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives and dentists), who are primarily independent contractors. Medical Affairs engages with, and secures the services of, medical staff to ensure their delivery of client and family centered medical care, while also facilitating enhanced collaboration between medical staff and those health care professionals employed by PHC.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Medical Affairs & Medical Staff Services, with dyad matrix reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Medical Affairs & Engagement Strategies (SMD) and working closely with the Regional Physician Physical & Psychological Health & Safety Working Group, the Lead, Medical Staff Wellness & Engagement is responsible for developing and executing strategies and initiatives to enhance communication, engagement, integration, and experience of medical staff at PHC. The Lead develops, fosters, and maintains strong collaborative working relationships and effective partnerships within Medical Affairs, as well as with senior medical leaders, the broader Medical Staff, partners across PHC, and other health system partners (external). This role also applies project and change management approaches to advance initiatives that align with PHC Medical Affairs Office, organizational, and Regional Physician Physical & Psychological Health & Safety Working Group priorities. This includes leading specific projects focused on medical staff wellness, safety, communication and engagement strategy, and onboarding/orientation.
Experienced in medical staff engagement, the Lead, Medical Staff Wellness & Engagement, recognizes the complexities of leading change with a diverse group and nuanced setting. This position is notably complex due to the inherent unique characteristics of medical staff culture and their position as independent contractors. Furthermore, the environment in which medical staff practice adds layers of complexity due to the influence of the Physician Master Agreement and many external partners including the Medical Staff Association, Physician & Surgeons Society, UBC, VCH, Doctors of BC, the Joint Clinical Committees, and the Ministry of Health.
What You Bring:

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Care Administration, or another relevant discipline plus a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of recent, related experience in managing complex projects, facilitating engagement, and working collaboratively and successfully with medical staff, preferably within large health care organizations.
Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) or equivalent and experience related to Occupational Health & Safety would be considered an asset.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management concepts, tools and methodologies, with demonstrated success leading and managing complex projects.
  • Broad knowledge of health care systems including understanding of the medical staff context and the interface between primary, acute, community, research and academic environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, coupled with the ability to chair/facilitate meetings and develop high quality business documents (e.g., communication plans, progress reports, project completion documentation).
  • Knowledge of best practices for change management and change leadership.
  • Knowledge of budget management, funding and project administration.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations and best practices within the healthcare sector.
  • Ability to utilize initiative, vision, independent and analytical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
  • Ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external partners within a complex interdisciplinary environment including physician, nursing and other health professional communities.
  • Effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation skills to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor others.
  • Ability to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capability of providing leadership to a diverse project team and interact comfortably with senior and executive personnel in the organization.
  • Functional knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary: The salary range for this position is $45.46 - $52.61 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Growth opportunities: We welcome individuals at all stages of their career, offering opportunities for professional development and growth.
  • State-of-the-art facilities: The new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will be the most innovative approach to the delivery of integrated care in B.C. and Canada, designed to appropriately address the future health needs of patients, families, and our communities. From hospital care to primary and community health solutions, the new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will continue to lead innovations in care, research, and teaching. The new St. Paul’s Hospital is expected to open in 2027.
