PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: While training to pursue Pharmacy Technician licensure, the Community Pharmacy Trainee will gain experience in the following areas: Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system. Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles. Maintains POS product database. Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system. Generates, maintains and files all required reports. Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies. Processes both new and refill prescriptions. Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software. Counts and labels products as assigned. Cannot take prescriptions over the phone. Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of practice. Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner. Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s). Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment. Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions. Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies. Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories. Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor. Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior. Reports all questionable practices to management. Stays current with Pharmacy trends. Deliver medications to patients. Receive and put away pharmacy deliveries. Keep front of the store over the counter section neat and stocked. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers. Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested. ADDITIONAL COMM PHARM TECH STATE CERTIFIED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms. Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims. Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns. Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels. Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns. Follows-up on backorders. Rotates and maintains stock. Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures. ADDITIONAL COMM PHARM TECH NATIONALLY CERTIFIED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Obtains refill authorizations by communicating effectively with prescribers. Community Pharmacy Technician: State Licensed – Grade S7, Job Code - 7212 Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Minimum of High School Diploma/GED or higher. (Pharm Tech) – Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Tech in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills. (Preferred) - (PTCB) – Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Upon obtaining PTCB certification or equivalent certification, incumbent will transfer into the Community Pharmacy Technician, Nationally Certified - Grade S8, Job Code – 7213 position. Community Pharmacy Technician: Nationally Certified – Grade S8, Job Code - 7213 Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Minimum of High School Diploma/GED or higher. (Pharm Tech) – Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Tech in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (PTCB) – Current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent certification. Candidates must be graduates of a nursing school, with a BSN preferred, and have at least one year of RN experience or completion of the Nurse Residency Program. They must also hold a current RN license in Connecticut and obtain various certifications within specified timeframes.
