Crisis Response Student – Student Placement (Unpaid) Crisis Response Program     EveryMind Mental Health Services are looking for a Placement Student from a Child and Youth Worker Program, to complete their third-year placement work in the organization’s 24/7 Crisis Response program. This is an unpaid placement and will begin in the fall of 2026 until the spring of 2027 (6 months) The Placement Student will assist Crisis Response Workers in responding to Mental Health crisis situations and provide both telephone & Mobile in-office/community-based assessment and intervention and service to children, youth and their families in the Region of Peel. Specific Tasks * Under the direction and with the support of the Field Instructor, the student will: * Respond to crisis calls from clients in mental health crisis, in a timely manner, implementing verbal de-escalation techniques * Provide immediate crisis assessment and planning. * Develop and implement safety plans, as required. * Complete follow up calls and/or visits to the clients, to further support stabilization of the crisis situation and provide linkages to ongoing community supports or counselling; * Complete all necessary risk and behavioural assessments, utilizing tools such as Columbia Screener – Suicide assessment tool and Can-CAT- Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment; * Based on assessment, utilize effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills; * Work closely with other members of the Crisis Response Service;  * Provide service in the home, in the school or in the community as needed; * Provide time-limited, transitional case management supports and collaboration with other service providers following the crisis response;  * Be available to work flexible shifts according to a predetermined schedule since Crisis Response Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Knowledge, Education and Experience * Currently pursuing Child and Youth Worker diploma (in 3rd year) or Bachelor of Social Work/ Child and Youth Care degree * Knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to apply counselling skills to crisis response services * Above average interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. * Proven ability to use tact and judgment in a respectful manner and the ability to apply these skills over the phone or in person. * Possess good assessment and clinical report writing skills. * Be able to maintain confidentiality.  * Possess a proven ability to develop therapeutic relationships quickly over the phone with children, youth, caregivers and other professionals. * Have an ability to learn as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and the ability to work collaboratively under the guidance of the Supervisor and/or Field Instructor.  * Knowledge of MS Office, Outlook and client information system  * Possess reliable transportation to fulfil commitment as a student with the program.  * Ensure that the below documentation is submitted to People & Culture prior to placement: * Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check * Completed pre-employment medical form including TB test results and proof of immunization * Ministry of Education’s Work/Education Placement Agreement/Post-Secondary * Agreement with College to provide * Proof of Registration at your College * Learning contract (as applicable) * Ensure that the below documentation is submitted to People & Culture at the end of placement: * Finalized learning contract (as applicable) * Final school evaluation * Attend all field related seminars and orientation program(s). * Advise the Manager and/or Field Instructor of illness and/or other factors that interferes with the placement within a reasonable period of time with the understanding that attendance is critical for successful completion of field placement. * Complete a learning contract in consultation with and approval from Manager and/or Field Instructor.
