Director of Studies*
Dublin Centre of Education is a well-established English Language School situated in Dublin 1. We are seeking a passionate and talented Director of Studies who will ensure the smooth running of the academic department within the school as well as take responsibilities for the academic integrity and day-to-day academic management of our language school. He/she must be highly motivated about English language education, have excellent communication and management skills with the ambition and tenacity to succeed in this role.
Your key responsibilities will consist of, but not be limited to:
Academic
- Responsible for recruitment, retention, induction and training of teaching staff
-Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment as needed
- To monitor and review teachers’ performance through classroom observations and give feedback for further improvement in a regular basis
-Prepare rota to allocate teachers to the classes, ensuring that teachers are paired in such a way that every class has a different teacher.
-Record keeping for teaching hours and forward to concern department for payment
-Help manage admissions and enrolments, timetable classes and source/allocate resources.
- Deliver pre course needs analysis, placement testing, induction & orientation to students.
-Teach when necessary e.g. teacher absence/sickness etc.
-Management of exams, exam preparation courses and dealing with exam centres
-Make available all academic resources and equipment
-Syllabi design for GE courses, EAP courses, Erasmus+ courses
-Prepare academic and social event calendar
Overall management of the students’ academic experience including
-Implement and maintain correct academic procedures, including placement test, weekly tests, class size and composition
-Induction new students daily/weekly and to ensure that all students adhere to the code of conduct laid down by the company
-Monitor student attendance through student management system (SMS)
-Complaint handling and feedback
Other general management and coordination
-Maintenance, development and implementation of documentation, operational and improvement policies
-Condition and Liaison with the Centre Management, Admin and Sales & Marketing Team
-Maintaining and updating the ILEP Register of Approved Programmes for inspection by GNIB
-Be familiar with the accreditation bodies guidelines (documents available on site) and ensure academic management achieves and maintains the standards set out in these guidelines
-Chair academic department meetings as necessary
Administrative Duties:
-Maintaining complete and up-to-date records related to your teaching i.e. lesson plans and work covered
-Understand and promote the policies and procedures in place
-To assist and support with completing student feedback forms when necessary
-Manage reports for monthly staff payroll for the academic unit
*Staff Induction:
-To attend a staff induction and take an active part in discussion and feedback
*Health & Safety:
-To comply with all health and safety procedures as required by the Company
Being aware of relevant fire, health and safety issues in the classroom and around the centre and during excursions
-A First Aid qualification is desirable. If you have such please make sure a copy of your certificate is available
*Essential Requirements:
· ACELS/ British Council recognised TEFL/TESOL Cert (CELT/CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL)
· PGCE TEFL/TESOL or a taught post-graduate course (MA equivalent) in TEFL/TESOL, including at least 6 hours of supervised teaching practice
· Native or near native level of fluency in English (CEF Level C2/CPE/IELTS 8)
· Over 5 years’ full-time EFL experience
· 1+ years academic management experience in a language school
· Proven competence in academic leadership
· Proven people management skills
Should you be successful, Dublin Centre of Education will require:
· Two recent and relevant referees
· Original certificates and official identification (passport, driving licence, National ID) to keep in our records
