Scope
The City of Surrey Arena Operations is currently looking for Ice Hockey Referees for our City of Surrey Hockey Leagues. We are looking for individuals who are professional and responsible and have experience officiating adult and minor hockey. As a City of Surrey referee, you will be responsible for officiating games fairly, respectfully and consistently, ensuring the safety of players on the ice, and enforcing the rules and regulations set out by the league coordinator.
Specifically, we are looking for referees who are available Monday to Friday from 2:00pm and 6:00pm to officiate our Surrey High School Hockey League and Saturdays between 1:00pm and 7:00pm.
Responsibilities
Officiate scheduled hockey games in accordance with league-specific rules.
Ensure the safety of all participants by completing pre and post game safety checks, enforcing rules, and maintaining control of the game.
Communicate clearly and professionally with players, coaches, and scorekeepers.
Assess penalties and maintain accurate records of infractions and game incidents.
Collaborate with arena staff to ensure games start and end on time.
Complete and submit game reports as required.
Attend mandatory training sessions and referee meetings.
Qualifications
Hockey Canada Officiating Program – Level 2 or higher. 2 years of experience officiating minor hockey at a bantam and/or midget level or higher.
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
Strong skating ability.

Hourly Rate: Coed Hockey League Referee - $41.39 (2024 Rate) / High School Hockey League Referee - $49.64 (2024 Rate)
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
