SUMMARY: This is an administrative and supervisory position in the Department of Parks and Recreation.  Employee plans, coordinates, and supervises, but not limited to, overall, indoor aquatics facility process control (water chemistry and air quality) and basic indoor aquatics facility maintenance and preventative maintenance (swimming pool plumbing and process control equipment; heating, ventilation and air conditioning and integration of physical plant with process control).                                                                                                                                 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  * Primary role in the proper operation of the facility’s water, including pool chemistry and filtration system, maintenance, and problem diagnosis and solving of mechanical issues affecting water quality.   * Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.  * Prepares facility set-up and take down for all aquatic programs, events, and meets.  * Monitors pool water chemistry through testing samples.  Adjust chemistry as needed to maintain standards. Maintain color, chemistry, and clarity of pool water.  * Maintains complete daily water chemistry and maintenance log sheets.  * Prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports to chart pool chemistry, inventory, and expenses incurred.  * Maintains the facility, equipment and grounds to ensure a safe environment.  * Maintains indoor and outdoor swimming pools.  * Monitors and maintains pool filtration system.  * Services major pool equipment such as pumps, motors, filters, HVAC and chemical equipment.  * Performs preventive maintenance and care of all pool equipment and communicates and coordinates same with aquatic staff.  * Maintains complete record of facility/pool maintenance, evaluations, and recommends any changes or additions to Facility Director.    * Exercises high degree of attention to appearance and condition of the facility, coordination of daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and preventive maintenance projects, and communicates extrinsic custodial and maintenance needs to Aquatics Director.  * Manages daily operations, utilizing aquatic risk management principles for multiple, informal and formal recreation spaces to ensure a safe, friendly, and functional environment.  * Monitors facility and equipment during special events/meets.  * Maintains, charts, and follows up incident and accident reports for aquatics operation and activities.   * Coordinates planned emergency drills.  * Conducts regular risk management evaluations of the staff and facilities.  * Assists in budgeting, purchasing, problem solving, and facilities assignments. Assists in assuring optimum utilization of the facility and best level of customer service for users. Recommends purchase of supplies, equipment or services for facility.  * Determines potential pool issues before issues become greater problems.  * Works with limited supervision and possesses ability to carry out detailed instructions, deal with problems in standardized, unexpected, and unsupervised situations; logically schedules work; apply innovative ideas to problem solving.   * Maintains confidentiality of information accumulated in the course of employment.  * Maintains and improves personal professional skills and education by attending appropriate professional development workshops, conferences, trainings, and seminars.  * Consults with the Aquatic Director/TPRD Director in all matters including budget preparation, interpretation of aquatic rules and regulations, and the purchasing and issuing of equipment.  * May be required to perform additional administrative duties on behalf of the City of Tupelo in execution of its contract with Tupelo Sports Council and the Tupelo Aquatic Group. These additional administrative duties include planning, coordinating, prepping, and participating in swim meets, fundraisers, and other special events.    SUPERVISORY DUTIES: * Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Department policies and procedures involving part-time and seasonal employees which include lifeguards and technicians.  This may include interviewing, hiring, assigning, training, evaluating, and disciplining employees.   QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodation, which does not create undue hardship will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   Education and/or Experience: Graduation from accredited four-year university or college with a degree in Recreation/Leisure Management and two years of experience in the operation of an indoor aquatics program including experience in water chemistry and pool and facilities maintenance preferred. Related education and related experience may be considered and substituted, but no less than a high school diploma if background and experience in coaching, aquatics, or participating in competitive aquatic events (e.g. swimming, diving, water polo, etc).  * Computer Skills: must possess minimal competency concerning the operation of a computer. Must be able to use certain computer programs often associated with the operation of an aquatics center to include Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and Google Chrome. Knowledge of League Organizer is preferred.   * Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, adapt, interpret policy and institute policy, as well as illustrating superb communication skills and monitoring, investigating and solve of customer problems.      * Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, discounts, interest, and commissions.  Understand and apply basic accounting principles and practices.   * Reasoning Ability: Read, understand and apply technical manuals. Apply principles of logical thinking to define and solve problems; exercise judgment and discretion regarding city and department policies and procedures; work with limited supervision; ability to carry out detailed instructions and deal with problems in usual, unexpected, emergency and unsupervised situations; logically schedule work; apply innovative ideas to problem solving.  Maintain confidentiality of information accumulated in the course of employment.    * Other Skills: Must be able to swim. Operate modern office equipment including telephone, smart phone, desktop or laptop computer, calculator, fax, copier, scanner, typewriter or word processing application, use of blue tooth devices, employ wireless communications and video media presentations.
