Overview:
Workers Comp Exposure Specialist
The Exposure Specialist will support Mercy’s workers’ compensation program by receiving, processing, and assisting injured co-workers through the workers’ compensation process, as well as providing Mercy-wide direction on all exposures. Daily duties will include the responsibilities of a workers’ compensation coordinator but will have the added focus of how co-workers exposed to blood/body fluids, communicable diseases, and environmental exposures will be handled across the ministry.

Exposure Specialist

• Assist in identifying true co-worker exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and environmental factors at all Mercy locations. Guide local coordinators on care as per medical providers instructions for all exposures, including patient testing, co-worker lab tests, preventive medications, environmental tests, counseling, education, follow-up, and preventive measures.
• Develop written communications and presentation education for teams to use on a regular basis with co-workers and leaders to ensure all are informed about safety and reporting exposures.
• Prepare and present analytics on exposures to leaders and other groups as needed, utilizing trend data to drive collaborative work with leaders and departments to reduce/eliminate exposure risk and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Represent Mercy as an exposure subject matter expert (SME) and engage as a SME, lead, or participant in local or Mercy-wide committees – needlesticks, infectious disease, infection prevention, safety, etc.
• Facilitate team review of all open exposure claims, Mercy-wide, to ensure proper documentation, correct labs drawn, timeliness, etc. and provide re-education for all involved.
• Review and update exposure policies and procedures in line with current regulatory laws and guidelines (CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission, etc.) at least annually.
• Perform other work duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Completion of an accredited health care program related to licensure.
• License: Current state licensure for clinical role (Certified medical assistant, LPN, RN, etc.)
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association upon 90 days of hire
• Experience: 2 years prior clinical experience
• Preferred Experience: Two years of clinical experience in occupational medicine, infectious disease, employee health or workers’ compensation
• Other Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently under limited supervision.
• Impeccable verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills that allow successful interactions with co-workers and leadership at all levels within the ministry and externally.
• Outstanding service orientation and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of co-workers across the ministry.
• Strong business computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), with expertise using Excel or similar database programs.
• Understanding of working with and preserving confidential information.•
• Ability to work independently or in collaboration equally.
• Strength in leading change.
