My name is Candis, and I am the Clinical Leader Manager of the St. Michael’s Hospital Emergency Department, and I am inviting you to join our team.
St. Michael’s Hospital is one of only a few facilities in Ontario with expertise and leadership in providing specialized care in Trauma, Critical Care, Neurosurgery, Stroke, and Cardiac Care, amongst harm reduction supports for people who use drugs.
As a emergency nurse myself, I know and believe in the phrase that “nurses are the heart of healthcare”. We are looking for individuals that are interested in practicing the full spectrum of emergency nursing, in a one of a kind setting, as part of an expert team. We are amidst a large-scale renovation to create a Best in Class Emergency Department. Our new acute zone comprises 36 individual rooms, and our brand-new trauma bay opened in January 2020. Safety and staff wellness are top priorities.

The RPN works within a changing environment and in inter-professional teams to advocate for and promote wellness while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and ethical nursing care. The RPN shares his/her knowledge and expertise with others and contributes to the advancement of nursing practice excellence. The RN continually enhances his/her practice and competencies through ongoing learning, education, experience and reflective practice.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

• Must have Current General Class (Practicing) Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of 2 years of recent medical-surgical experience required, emergency experience is preferred
• Current BLS certification required
• Completion of Elselvier Clinical Nursing modules provided by the Emergency Nurses Association or willingness to complete 1 month from date of hiring (covered by the department) OR submission of a Critical Care or Emergency Medicine certificate
• Completion of Coronary Care 1 or willingness to complete within the first 6 months of employment is required
• Completion of ACLS or willingness to complete within the first 6 months of employment is required
• Completion of a Course on Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour/ SMG (i.e. STOP Harm training) or equivalent training by in-house provider or willingness to complete within the first 6 months of employment is required
• Completion of Coronary Care 2 and ACLS is preferred
• Completion of ATCN or TNCC is preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively with other professions/disciplines in a team environment and advocate effectively
• Excellent communication skills particularly with vulnerable populations
• Demonstrated conflict management skills
• Proven planning, priority setting, time management, organization and coordination skills
• Excellent attendance record
  HOURS: 12 hours shifts including days, nights, weekends and/or statutory holidays. Shifts are subject to change as per departmental needs.

• Collaborating and consulting with Registered Nurses and other members of the care team in the care of patients with increasing instability and unpredictability and, when necessary, safely transferring care to the Registered Nurse.
