Assists in the use of bag-valve-mask device, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart and bedside glucose monitoring machine. Operates converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computers. Records patient intake and output. Assists RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination and hygiene. Observes and reports significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN and documents appropriately and in a timely manner. Transports patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed. Contributes to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge. Assists with postmortem care. Utilizes appropriate technology to complete all related processes. Participates in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement program as required by department leadership. Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures. May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas. Participates in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit. Performs other related responsibilities as required.
