The Peri-Operative Unit at North Canberra Hospital consists of a Day Surgery Unit (DSU), 7 Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) together with several out of areas procedural/invasive specialty areas. The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) is a unit caring for patients not requiring an inpatient stay. The DSU consists of; an admissions/ interview space, Stage 2 Recovery (an 8 bed section for post-operative recovery) and a Stage 3 Discharge Lounge (housing 10 recliner chairs) where patients are discharged home following their procedure. The Level 1 DSU nurse, is a dynamic skilled professional who is responsible for the provision of patient centeredevidence-based nursing care for every patient.
