Description

Are you passionate about neonatal care and infant feeding? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where your skills and dedication can truly make a difference? if yes, then we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Neonatal Specialist Feeding Nurse/Midwife to join our exceptional team.
This exciting role is responsible for promoting effective infant feeding support to all new parents in the neonatal unit and transitional care, ensuring that breast-feeding is actively promoted.
You will be responsible for promoting effective infant feeding support of all new parents in transitional care and the neonatal unit, ensuring that breast feeding is actively promoted. Ensuring that all new parents receive support and advice on: the importance of breastfeeding, the benefits and impact breastfeeding will have on short- and long-term health and wellbeing for the mother and baby, maximising milk supply by hand expressing and using the breast pump, safe breast milk storage and support with responsive bottle feeding if that is the parental choice or clinically indicated.
Additionally, you will support the Infant Feeding Team in achieving full UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation for LNU and re-accreditation for Maternity with a view to a whole service accreditation of the gold award.

Provide specialist expertise and advice in the clinical areas with regards to infant feeding alongside practical help where necessary.
Adopt a multi professional approach to care with mothers, families, health care professionals and other agencies and organisations e.g. UNICEF, BLISS
Be responsible for ordering, distributing and monitoring of equipment and resources for infant feeding purposes. Monitor and contribute to budget control of infant feeding equipment and resources.
Ensure the safe working order of infant feeding equipment. Teach and advise staff and parents how to use the equipment safely.
Provide clinical expertise and practical assistance on the unit to assist women to overcome complex feeding issues and provide specialist input developing plans of care.
Monitor and maintain standards of care in accordance with the Trust policies, Guidelines, Protocols and Professional Regulations. Contribute to the development of clinical governance systems and structures, ensuring clinical area representation as appropriate
Contribute to and support clinical effectiveness and innovative practice within the provision of care
Develop and undertake clinical audit. Evaluate local services against national standards/recommendations to ensure we deliver evidenced based care and best practice including establishing and implementing protocols and guidelines for the trust
Coordinate and support the development of services that promote and increase breastfeeding rates and support mothers to continue to breast feed.
Advise the clinical areas to provide care that is family focussed and developmentally supportive working closely with the FIC (Family Integrated Care) and developmental care lead.
Lead, implement and evaluate UNICEF programs and initiatives that ensure best practice standards. Ensure maintenance and sustainability of UNICEF BABY FRIENDLY accreditation.
Responsible for policy development and implementation regarding infant feeding. Ensure that service development protocols are in line with national and local guidelines.
Respond to relevant Clinical Incident Reports and develop strategies to address deficits in practice
Raise the professional profile of infant feeding throughout the Neonatal Uni
