POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Office of Educational Programs, plays a critical leadership role in the School of Public Health, overseeing a broad and complex portfolio of academic program delivery and student services. Reporting to the Faculty General Manager and Associate Dean, Education, this position leads a team responsible for supporting approximately 1,400 active graduate students, 5,000 undergraduate course registrations, and a range of continuing professional learners.
The Manager provides expert operational oversight and strategic planning across admissions, records, academic advising, and practicum coordination, while ensuring compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and external partner requirements. With direct accountability for budget planning and resource allocation, the incumbent holds delegated signing authority and contributes significantly to institutional decision-making through data-driven insights and policy interpretation. This role demands a high degree of organizational awareness and cross-functional collaboration, serving as the primary liaison with key internal units (e.g., GPS, Registrar’s Office, UAI) and external stakeholders including more than 75 practicum host organizations. As a people leader, the Manager cultivates a high-performing, inclusive team environment, actively coaching and developing talent while modeling innovation, resilience, and strategic foresight.
The position is pivotal in advancing the School’s academic mission and ensuring the seamless delivery of learner-centered services in alignment with the University of Alberta’s broader goals in equity, diversity, and excellence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A bachelor’s degree, with graduate credentials being preferred
• Significant experience in a large, complex, and unionized environment.
• Proven ability to manage operational budgets and make high-stakes decisions.
• Demonstrated success in leading diverse teams focused on service delivery.
• Experience overseeing service across multiple platforms (in-person, digital, call-centre).
• Strong organizational and personal management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, including conflict resolution and active listening.
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to build respectful, effective relationships across stakeholder groups.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Leadership-level experience within a post-secondary academic environment is an asset
• Experience working in or with public health or health sciences academic programs is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to drive process innovation and implement technology solutions utilizing University of Alberta programs and tools is an asset.
• Strong achievement orientation with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Proven success in navigating politically post secondary environments with graduate and post graduate committees is an asset
• Ability to influence and gain support from diverse stakeholders, including faculty and external partners.
