JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice and working closely with the Manager of Clinical Resource teams at both CVH and M sites– The IEN Education Facilitator will work with licensed IENs across various clinical areas at THP. The role will support the clinical learning and transition needs of new to Canada IENs. Developing and delivering clinical orientation and education, engaging internal and external stakeholders in the pursuit of improvement and excellence, and engaging in active mentorship and coaching while fostering partnerships with clinical programs. It is expected that the successful applicant will spend most of their time at the bedside helping foster critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills necessary for the successful integration of IENs at THP.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing; Masters preferred
Registration (in good standing) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Minimum 3 years clinical experience in an acute care setting; strong critical thinking and communication skills required
Recent critical care experience in Ontario preferred
Previous experience mentoring Internationally Educated Nurses is preferred
Previous experience as a clinical educator, instructor or placement supervisor is an asset
Understanding of adult learning principles and change management techniques in both classroom and clinical settings
Ability to coach, mentor and provide feedback while fostering a positive work culture
Excellent critical thinking, decision making, problem-solving, communication and conflict resolutions skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
Commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Computer Skills such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Menti and Canva
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Satisfactory attendance and performance required

Preceptorship, supervisor and peer support
Create and adapt preceptor resources, drawing on innovations and best practices in the clinical learning environment

Directly facilitate the development and use of systematic critical thinking and structured communication skills, leveraging existing resources (e.g.TIPs, Simulation, previous scholarly work at THP) and developing new resources as necessary
Maintain strong unit presence to support IENs as they transition to clinical environments, assessing and addressing ongoing learning needs and supporting the team where needed
Facilitate integration of IENs at the organizational & unit levels, serving as a liaison between unit/program leadership and Professional Practice
Collaborate with unit leadership and staff to ensure role clarity and team processes with IENs to provide high quality, patient and family centered care
Actively mentor & coach IENs through new experiences and supporting their professional growth
Develop, initiate and maintain a robust plan demonstrating successful transitions from orientation to independent practice.
Promote IEN wellness and team well-being through approaches such as the development of peer-to-peer networks
