QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably within the optical, aerospace, or defense sector.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of ISO9001 management systems (AS9100 experience is a plus).
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and implement manufacturing and quality improvements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with MRP/ERP systems is a plus.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving manufacturing engineering initiatives across the site. This hands-on, individual contributor role leads process improvements, strengthens manufacturing systems, and supports product quality throughout the product lifecycle. The position requires strong collaboration with Quality, Engineering, and Operations and includes oversight of the site’s business processes and quality systems. Experience in optical manufacturing is highly preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as a hands-on individual contributor responsible for driving technical and quality-related improvements across manufacturing processes.
• Provide optical manufacturing expertise across the business and its supply chain, supporting the design, manufacturing, and measurement of optical components, assemblies, and systems.
• Liaise between Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to establish and maintain standard work, travelers, and incoming inspection documentation that ensure product quality and repeatability.
• Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost performance across the site.
• Serve as the ISO9001 advocate, supporting the site’s business processes and associated procedures to ensure compliance and continued certification.
• Support New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from a manufacturing engineering and quality compliance perspective.
• Interface with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to optimize manufacturability, reduce waste, and improve process capability.
• Lead structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, and implementation of effective corrective actions internally and with suppliers.
• Oversee the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers and materials, including audit follow-up and coordination of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
• Partner with Sourcing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support the qualification of new purchased parts and supplier processes.
• Champion best practices for process control, calibration, and measurement of optical systems throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
