In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Nuclear Systems Engineering Section is currently hiring for an Engineer/Engineering Trainee.
The Nuclear Systems Engineering Section is accountable for overseeing the preventative maintenance, asset management and general health of equipment on the primary or reactor side.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Provides technical evaluations, advice and solutions to problems in a number of major work areas; including in support of commissioning, operation and maintenance of Bruce Power facilities.
  • Monitor’s performance of equipment associated with their functional area to ensure operation is within design, licensing, and operating parameters.
  • Identifies potential problems and opportunities in their assigned functional areas and/or systems.
  • Prepares submissions outlining potential solutions to problems including cost justification or financial evaluations as appropriate.
  • Discusses installation or implementation with persons concerned, and ensures, where possible, that the installation is as intended.
  • Keeps abreast of maintenance and operating problems and takes action to implement solutions when appropriate.
  • Cooperates with other departments and organizations in arranging tests and maintenance and in providing appropriate documentation as required.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments related to their functional area and incorporates changes as appropriate.
  • Ensures that documentation associated with their functional area is accurate and updated.
  • Interacts with external organizations to review performance in their functional area.
  • Provides input to and reviews modifications performed on equipment related to their functional area.
  • Participates in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others.
  • May be required to gather and collate data for use in department/section budget or business planning preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget.
  • Previous experience with reliability engineering or asset management will be considered as an asset.
  • Review relevant industry Operating Experience and regulatory requirements and initiate actions as necessary.
  • Establish, maintain and improve a comprehensive system performance monitoring/trending/analyzing and reporting plan.
  • Serve as leader for assigned systems and their respective cross functional health teams to improve equipment reliability.
  • Develop and maintain both a short-term and long-term system plan inclusive of aging/obsolescence, materials degradation, Life Cycle Management, critical spare parts, and life extension issues.
  • Identify and quantify risks along with mitigating actions associated with the system.
  • Initiate design changes to improve equipment reliability. Provide conceptual design input, then monitor and accept for service.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of mechanical, I&C, and process systems to technically understand the operation of the facility.
  • Requires knowledge of English in order to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations both verbally and in writing. Ability to interface effectively with operations, maintenance, other technical staff, regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to interact positively with others by developing trust, mutual respect and cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-motivated.

Education and Experience:

Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)

  • Completion of a four-year University degree in Engineering.
  • An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng).
  • A period of over 6 years and up to 8 years experience is considered necessary.

Engineer Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)

  • Completion of a four-year University degree in Engineering.
  • Working towards a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.
  • A period of 2 years and up to including 4 years’ experience is considered necessary.
