SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT – WHITEHAVEN

Location: Whitehaven, Cumbria
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time or Part-time (3–4 days per week) | Term Time Only
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (dependent on experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 3:30pm (part-time hours available)

A supportive and inclusive SEN school in Whitehaven is seeking a caring and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.
This rewarding role offers both full-time and part-time opportunities (3–4 days per week), giving you the flexibility to find a working pattern that suits you. You’ll support pupils with a variety of needs, including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties, working closely with experienced staff in small class groups to help children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience supporting children or young people with SEN (school, nursery, residential care, youth work, or similar)
• Brings patience, empathy, and resilience to the role
• Can communicate effectively and build strong relationships with pupils and staff
• Is confident in managing challenging behaviour calmly and professionally

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification
• Previous experience in an SEN school or care/support work with children

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to apply – support provided)
• A recent and detailed CV outlining relevant SEN experience

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide learning and classroom support tailored to pupils’ individual needs
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement
• Work 1:1 and with small groups to deliver targeted interventions
• Assist with the implementation of EHCPs and personalised strategies
• Help create safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environments
• Encourage independence, communication, and positive relationships
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to achieve the best outcomes for pupils
