The Libraries & Museums Unit is delighted to offer an opportunity for a recent University of St Andrews graduate to gain relevant practical experience within an Academic Library setting and explore this sector as a potential career choice. The successful candidate will take part in a programme of activities, working across all teams, giving them an insight into the range of work available. These will include:
User engagement - handling enquiries at the helpdesk and involvement in orientation and other user-focussed events.
Creating and editing online reading lists and developing educational support materials.
Print and digital Acquisitions and Inter-Library Loan
Collection management and Metadata practices, working on a specified donation or project for both Library and University Collections
Supporting Open Research initiatives
As part of the programme, trainees will participate in the development opportunities offered to all Libraries & Museums staff and will also visit other Libraries in different sectors to gain an understanding of the broader library and information sector.
Applicants should be well-motivated team players, with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills and an understanding of the importance of customer service are essential. Intensive training on key systems and procedures will be provided.
This is a full-time fixed-term post until 31st July 2026, with the successful candidate working 36.25 hours per week.
