Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists in the efficient and effective maintenance of thrift store operations. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards. May assist with store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays. Replenish inventory levels based on directions. Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring. Takes responsibility for the accurate financial transactions including credit card, debit, and cash. Perform daily cash-outs, including balancing sales and floats. Complies with atl safety procedures and in/outdoor tidy maintenance guidelines. Performs janitorial duties as requested. NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties. * Supported by task list. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards and Councils: N/A Internal: N/A External: External donors MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to the Retail Shift Supervisor Direct reports for this position: None This position is responsible for their own time and effort only. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers, or students. FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Processes sales transactions, no budget responsibilities. Responsible for the safekeeping of thrift store supplies and equipment for business use. WORKING CONDITIONS: Serves in a store or warehouse, within a busy CFS ministry. The location of work may create a possibility of experiencing the following disagreeable conditions: angry/abusive people and verbal abuse, minor risk of harm, injury, illness due to physical attacks from others and/or exposure to infectious diseases. Emergency Response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc) Dirty environment / odours (garbage, washrooms) o Truck fumes o Excessive noise o Work schedule may impact life (weeknights and weekends) Monotonous work (repetitive tasks) o Increased potential for on-site accidents (moving or sharp objects) o Exposure to toxic chemicals o Exposure to bodily fluids o Other potentially dangerous situations (unsafe donations) Store Hours generally Monday — Saturday but require some flexibility for special events or urgent situations. Not required to travel. HEALTH & SAFETY Required to complete general orientation, including safety in the workplace training and annual review. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have completed some High School. Prior related experience, including in a warehouse or thrift store setting, is an asset. Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements: Must hold or obtain a recent Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to TSA. Must receive clearance from TSA Abuse Registry Check. Required to complete WHMIS training annually. Required to complete Praesidum Academy training modules relevant to position. Current certification in First Aid / CPR, or willingness to obtain, is an asset.
