Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (SPD) is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices. Works under a combination of direct and indirect supervision by the Manager or Designee. The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the institution, as well as outside sources with which they may have dealings. Must be able to accept new ideas and learn new position duties. Must become certified through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) within the first year of employment. When test is passed, will be promoted to position of Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
