Company Description
Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local population. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.
Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
Job Description
Do you enjoy working clinically but not ready to specialise yet? Do you want to gain experience in a large Acute Trust learning from advanced level pharmacists? Would you like to have a dedicated training team to support you and your development?
We have developed a well-supported pathway for newly qualified and foundation pharmacists looking to enhance their professional and clinical skillsets. We use fully funded postgraduate clinical diplomas to support pharmacists through the first few years of their careers and offer fully funded independent prescribing courses as part of the programme. You will be supported by a dedicated in-house Buddy/mentor, our Education and Training team, and the wider Pharmacy team throughout. You will begin the course at Band 6 level and on achieving well defined developmental gateways, progress to a Band 7 (expected time for completion of gateways is 15-18 months depending upon progress).
You will be an integral part of the Pharmacy team and, with supervision from senior colleagues, contribute professionally to the various sections of the department and provide a clinical pharmacy service to our wards and clinics. You will be able to rotate through clinical pharmacy areas in order to optimise patient benefit from treatment with medicines and ensure the safe, efficacious and cost effective use of medicines. You will work in a large variety of different specialities during your 4 monthly, or 9 monthly rotations, depending upon current stage of the course.
Current rotational areas include AMU / Medical village, Emergency Department, Cardiology, Renal, Critical care, MSK (Musculoskeletal), OPM (older persons medicine), Surgery, Women’s and children, Oncology / Haematology, Clinical trials and Respiratory. You will be able to undertake risk management and ensures compliance with medicines legislation.
We will be accepting applications from Pre-registered/Trainee Pharmacists, Newly Qualified Pharmacists, and Pharmacists with backgrounds outside of the Hospital sector.
We are looking for someone who:
Portsmouth is a vibrant city and tourist destination on the south coast with convenient access to the South Downs National Park and the Isle of Wight and just 90 minutes from London Waterloo by train. Whether your passion is the outdoors, with beaches, sailing, kite surfing, horse-riding and hiking on our doorstep, or culture, in the birthplace of Charles Dickens, with two theatres and a major concert venue in the city, Portsmouth has something for everyone. If history is your hobby, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard offers a rich exploration of Britain’s naval history, but if retail therapy is more likely to float your boat, discount designer-label shopping at Gunwharf Quays attracts shoppers from far and wide. If you like to travel and explore, Portsmouth ferries sail to the Channel Islands, France and Spain and cruise ships depart from nearby Southampton to the Mediterranean, Baltic, Caribean and Nordic seas. Southampton airport is just 20 miles away, serving destinations across the British Isles and Europe.
