The Department of Literature and Writing Studies at California State University San Marcos is accepting applications for Fall 2025. We have sections of both GEW 101A: Writing as Critical Inquiry and GEW 101B: Writing as a Rhetorical Act. Salary is commensurate with credential and experience.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

GEW 101A - Focuses on critical reading and thinking as foundational skills for academic writing. Emphasizes information literacy in the analysis of a variety of texts and in the practice of reading and composing in multiple genres. Includes a multi-draft writing process that requires revision in response to peer and instructor feedback.
GEW 101B - Focuses on writing as a rhetorical act that (re)produces social constructions and power relations. Emphasizes writing for specific audiences and purposes and navigating genre conventions such as argument structure, evidence integration, style, and formatting. Includes critical reflection on the writing process during multi-draft writing projects that require substantive revision in response to peer and instructor feedback. Analyzes strategies for communicating effectively in diverse rhetorical situations, and applies those strategies to academic, research-based writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A doctorate or terminal degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
• Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Higher education teaching experience
• Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.

SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH DEGREE LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience
