The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Aboriginal Child and Family Advocacy and Support program. This role supports and advocates for families involved in the child protection system, aiming to keep them safe and out of ongoing intervention. Based in Dubbo, Moree, and the surrounding areas. It is part of the ACFAS program and works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ACCOS, support services, and DCJ. You will:

  • Guide families through the child protection system, helping them understand DCJ decisions, their rights, and available options.
  • Promote child safety and wellbeing, ensuring it remains central to all support and advocacy efforts.
  • Support families to self-advocate or represent their views when needed, ensuring their voices are heard.
  • Collaborate with services and stakeholders to ensure families’ needs are prioritised in service delivery.
  • Assist families in accessing appropriate services and attend meetings to support them as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and data, and uphold ALS policies, values, and code of conduct in all work.
