Our programs and services are created and delivered with the support of our Elders Advisory Council with special attention on strengthening culture and identity, while honoring the strength of families. * We strive to work in a holistic way to keep families together and reintegrate children back with their families and extended families.   * Our service delivery is done with an open heart and an open mind focusing on the best interest of the family while keeping children at the center.   * We work to ensure children are connected to their family, and community while striving to ensure their inherent rights to heritage and identity are upheld in all we do.         ----------------------------------------     Stó:lō Community Engagement Worker-1795 1 Year Term Position-Chilliwack Stó:lō Family & Community Support Team - (Central) Salary- $56,158.73 to $64,450.13 per annum (35 hrs. per week) EDO Available: Monday Week 2   POSITION SUMMARY:   Please note, that the length of this term may be dependent upon the return of the incumbent.   The Stó:lō Community Engagement Worker (CEW) is part of the continuum of prevention strategies provided by FVACFSS to support and strengthen Indigenous Stó:lō families in their communities. The position works flexible hours to enhance the well-being of Indigenous Sto:lo children, youth  and families, meet Stó:lō community needs, and promote the development of positive personal working relationships between Indigenous Stó:lō families, Stó:lō First Nations communities and FVACFSS. The CEW works closely with Stó:lō Community Stakeholders, Stó:lō Team Supervisors and with other Stó:lō Agency staff to ensure community linkages and working relationships. The CEW reports directly to the Stó:lō Family Strengthening Team Leader  and links to the Stó:lō Delegated Team Leaders.   Xyólheméylh is proud to have an Elders Advisory Council to ensure that culture is embedded throughout the agency ensuring the goals, missions and values are upheld in a good way. Lets'emót – to be of one heart and one mind.   EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: * Two-year diploma in the Human Services field or equivalent combination of education and experience. * A minimum 3 years experience working with Indigenous children, youth, and families in a human services capacity within an Indigenous community setting is an asset. * Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous and Stó:lō cultural practices and traditions and how culture impacts the development of individuals and communities.   * Understanding of cross-cultural issues that impact Indigenous and Stó:lō people and communities. * Knowledge of the generational impacts of Colonization, and historical child welfare practice on Indigenous people and their families, as well as the finding of the TRCC and recommendations. * Practical knowledge of provincial, federal, and Indigenous organizations mandated to provide child & family services. * Knowledge and understanding of the agency’s policies and procedures and willingness to respect and abide by the agency’s policies. * Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation with adequate vehicle insurance. * Criminal records check is required.   SKILLS & ABILITIES:   * Ability to work from a solution-focused, strengths-based perspective. * Ability to assist in the resolution of real or perceived conflicts between the agency and the Stó:lō communities. * Ability to conceptualize new programs and services and experience in planning, organizing, directing, and implementing community-based activities and programs in a collaborative manner. * Ability to build strong and positive relationships with all Stó:lō communities and other FVACFSS employees. * Provides services in a manner that supports and reflects positive cultural practices. * Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written. * Maintain an attitude of caring, respect and optimism for community members and representatives. * Professional commitment, flexibility and good problem solving and dispute resolution skills. * Computer literate on Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer software. * Ability to write concise reports addressed to various audiences. * Required to work flexible hours and participate in Stó:lō community events and celebrations.   CONFIDENTIALITY:   FVACFSS employees are expected to be familiar with and must comply with the expectations of confidentiality as outlined in the Agency’s Human Resources Policy Manual and other policies and operational manuals, AOPSI and the B.C.
