SUMMARY

Exchange Chambers are looking to recruit an experienced Civil Clerk to join the team in Manchester on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. With over 200 Barristers including 19 Silks and 64 members of staff, we are one of the largest and most well-resourced Chambers in the UK.
We are looking for someone who can assist with practice management. The ideal candidate should possess fantastic client-care skills and the ability to maintain relationships with Solicitors.
This is an opportunity for a resourceful, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to work on a short-term basis and who will work closely as part of a team and provide an excellent service to our members and professional clients.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with clients, Barristers, Solicitors, and court staff. In addition, the ideal candidate should have:

• A professional telephone manner and be able to compose well-structured emails.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• An ability to work well under pressure.
• An ability to prioritise workload and plan accordingly.

Work Location: In perso

• To gain an appreciation of the practice of each individual barrister in the Personal Injury team within Manchester.
• To be responsible for managing designated Barrister’s diaries and workload daily.
• To deal with e-mails and telephone calls from solicitors in an effective, expeditious and courteous manner and develop an understanding of their requirements.
• To allocate work efficiently and fairly.
• To notify instructing solicitors of any potential clashes on cases and manage accordingly.
• To deal with Counsel’s billing.
• To negotiate fees with instructing solicitors and supply cost estimates on multi-track cases where necessary.
• Accurate inputting of agreed costs budgets onto our diary system.
• To ensure a CFA is produced on all claimant multi-track cases.
• To ensure booking confirmations are sent to instructing solicitors on all hearings and conferences in accordance with Chambers’ guidelines.
• To ensure conflict checks are conducted on each new case in accordance with Chambers policy.
