Description The Trail Crew Assistant Supervisor works to provide a safe experience for guests by effectively overseeing the Trail Crew, managing terrain using the accumulation and distribution of natural snowfall. The Assistant Supervisor is focused on safety, training, and effective communication to maintain a positive work environment. The Trail Crew Assistant Supervisor works under the direction of the Trail Crew Supervisor and the Senior Slopes Supervisor, and works closely with all of Mountain Operations, participating in all matters of slope preparation, public safety, and emergency response. Essential Functions The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the employees within the Trail Crew department, when the Supervisor is absent, or at the direction of the Supervisor. Attention to detail in critical aspects of safety (including accurately maintained mountain signage and fencing) is required. Communicating effectively via radio. Being accountable for creation, review and adherence to safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work is essential for the role as is setting a good example for safe work. Actively participating, within scope of abilities, in avalanche rescue response and leading team towards obtaining the skill set in collaboration with the public safety teams at the Resort. Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities Timely completion of documentation e.g. daily safety meetings, employee training. Maintaining effective schedules and properly assigning department tasks to meet business needs. Assisting with conducting performance reviews, hiring, and performance management. Communicating and adhering to company initiatives and policies and promoting safe skiing. Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Liaise with the Mountain Operations Manager and Slopes Supervisor as and when required. Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time. Experience/Requirements Minimum 5 years of skiing or related skills in mountainous environment. Standard First Aid. Proven ability to lead a team, perform all duties and department tasks, and be self-motivated. Outgoing, positive, and friendly attitude. Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g., weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours. Calm under pressure and patient, with good time management skills. Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally. Providing your own ASTM-compliant helmet and ski equipment for work, which must be in good operating condition, meet company requirements, and will be tested. Work in a confidential capacity. Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative on or off duty. Effectively provide training, support, and assistance to coworkers, and participate in training. Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable, acting as a leader and mentor. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Outlook) and online systems is preferred. Additional Considerations Employees must always be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty. The ability to exercise good judgement is essential and a key requirement of the position. This position requires the ability to ski for long periods of time (spending the day in ski boots is normal), constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of equipment and tools (up to 45 kg). Requires working at heights, occasionally climbing ladders, ascending inclined slopes up to 60% (30°) There will be exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work. This role may operate machinery and works around moving equipment. Candidates are required to provide Vibram® soled winter boots; ski equipment in good working order; avalanche safety gear (3 antennae beacon, shovel, and probe); an ASTM ski helmet; and appropriate mid and base layers for a winter environment.
