To work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with members of the support worker, radiotherapy, and radiotherapy clinic team, fulfilling operational policy and procedure requirements for service provision.
To assist with and participate in the provision of direct and indirect patient care activities in the Radiotherapy department.
To carry out an identified range of clerical and administrative duties related to the requirements of the department and the maintenance of communications and service.
All duties will be carried out under direct or indirect supervision from qualified radiographers and other members of the support worker team.
To assist and support radiographers and other healthcare professionals in providing patient/client activities associated with the Radiotherapy department and ensure a high quality of personalised service.
This role will support Radiotherapy clinics and the clinical operation of the department. This will mean working at times as an integral member of the radiotherapy clinic staff team:
Working through varied shift patterns to suit service need.
Ensuring appropriate resources are available for the effective running of the clinics.
Appropriate identification of patients and patient chaperoning as required.
Supporting the effective time management of scheduled radiotherapy clinics.
High levels of patient communication to support keeping patients informed of various aspects of the radiotherapy pathway i.e., clinic wait times, explaining appointment letters, and procedures.
Requesting relevant tests according to defined protocols.
Obtaining weekly weights of patients during treatment.

The Radiotherapy Department at Weston Park Cancer Centre is situated in a purpose built oncology unit and is one of four hospitals comprising Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. There is easy access to the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire and shopping in Sheffield city centre and nearby Meadowhall.
An opportunity has arisen to join an established team of radiotherapy assistants within the Radiotherapy Department at Weston Park Hospital. This modern department treats cancer patients both as inpatients and outpatients. This role supports a team of radiotherapy professionals to deliver high quality care to over 4,000 new patients a year. The successful candidate will be able to show empathy and support to patients whilst having a cheerful approach to work.
