Make your mark for the innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) program at Boskalis and contribute at the forefront of strategically integrating AI into our operations to drive efficiency. Our AI strategy is designed to tackle business challenges within strategically defined themes on our assets, dredging and offshore vessels and our primary process, our tenders and projects.
To achieve this ambition, we have positioned a new AI department of 20 colleagues at a corporate level. The department is working on our AI portfolio created by our senior business leaders and validated by our Board of Management. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement (Gen)AI solutions that fulfil business needs.
This position will require a blend of technical expertise and a desire to understand our business needs. Enthusiastic motivation, drive, and willingness to continuously keep learning are key. We are looking for someone who can combine dredging and offshore engineering, fundamental knowledge of data and AI, and Python software development.

YOUR QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE

You can move ahead as AI Solutions Engineer (+2 years) if you have:

• An MSc degree in engineering (maritime, hydraulic, offshore), mathematics, computer or data science.
• Hands-on experience in the maritime industry in a tender or project engineering role is a pre, for example with modelling and simulation.
• Hands-on experience and/or certifications in Python software development and ecosystem, such as object-oriented programming, software design principles, testing and debugging, version control (Git), performance optimization, API development, and working with data structures and algorithms.
• Hands-on experience and/or certifications using Databricks, Azure, Azure AI Foundry for handling (un)structured data, LLM utilization, data processing, exploration, and AI development.
• Experience with cloud, infrastructure as code, and edge computing/IoT are a bonus.
• A good command of written and spoken English.

Your main tasks will be:

• To work on our in-house solutions for logistics simulation and optimization, which are used to optimize our tenders and projects across multiple business domains in our Offshore Energy and Dredging & Inland Infra divisions.
• Work with diverse stakeholders, domain experts, business managers, data engineers, AI/ML engineers, IT, crew, to understand our processes and translate them into fit-for-purpose AI solutions. Think about agentic systems, LLM code assistants, and anomaly detection algorithms.
• Stay updated and implement the latest technologies, methodologies, and best practices in data and AI.

We will guide and coach you to work in our development toolchain and the Boskalis business, for you to quickly:

• Take ownership of the quality, accuracy, and reliability of datasets and Python applications used for AI deployments.
• Ensure alignment, progress, and understanding of standard data/software quality practices through effective communication and application of tools like pre-commit-hooks, Python project management en dependencies tool (uv), ruff, and GitHub Actions.
• Independently design, develop and manage scalable AI applications based on business requirements.
