Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isizulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, southeast Asian, middle east and north African markets. Job Description You will be responsible for directing the timely and accurate preparation, compilation, and distribution of financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and transparent transaction reporting as well as ensuring the timely completion, compilation, and distribution of relevant sections of internal reporting, month end reporting, and external results. More of your responsibilities will include: Providing detailed contribution to the consolidation of financial reports including focusing on and reviewing specific accounting areas across all operations Overseeing and leading accurate presentation of financial statements for applicable entities, including the Thungela consolidated results and interim reporting requirements Reviewing of consolidated results, using information gained from the operations to assess accuracy Leading efforts to ensure strict adherence to accounting standards and regulations, facilitate timely communication of updates on financial reporting requirements, and conduct comprehensive evaluations of ongoing transactions for compliance Communicating updates to IFRS and other reporting requirements to Thungela’s head office and mine reporting teams, ensuring timely implementation Aligning current financial reporting standards, processes, and systems with regulatory changes Assessing ongoing transactions for compliance with IFRS, and other relevant regulatory requirements Where relevant, drive engagement with the head office or operational finance teams to ensure appropriate and timeous reporting, analysis of transactions and process improvement Overseeing and ensure transparent transaction reporting and disclosure by applicable entities Driving accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency of financial reporting processes by minimising risks, driving improvements, and implementing enhancements Overseeing month-end processes, including journal entry processing and submission of financial data, while also assisting in budget and forecast preparation for selected entities Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understand and deliver on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously This role is in the finance department at band 6 and reports to the Head of Financial Reporting.
