Description
Department Overview A Research Associate position is available in the Shi Laboratory in the Oregon Hearing Research Center to assist in the research on the physiology, cellular and molecular biology of cochlear function. Projects will include: 1) studies on mice to measure blood flow function in the inner ear, and 2) studies on the mechanisms of sound caused damage to the cochlear vasculature. The incumbent will be responsible for the care of all of the established primary vascular cell lines and will conduct most of the in vitro studies and will also carry out some of the in vivo studies, including injection of animals. In addition, the incumbent will conduct immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging and data collection. The Oregon Hearing Research Center (OHRC) is part of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Oregon Health & Science University. Individuals who hold a bachelor degree or, master degree or a Ph.D. with significant mouse physiology and molecular biology experience are especially qualified to apply. Must be able to perform duties with little to no supervision, Must also be comfortable with using computers and working with animals (mice). Function/Duties of Position Tissue (cochlear) dissection and histological procedures. Protocols for measurement of acute or chronic acoustic stimulation of evoked auditory brain potentials. Analysis and reporting of data. Administration of anesthetic agents. Animal husbandry to maintain mouse colonies, and genotyping of transgenic mice. Will train and help supervise students and junior staff. Will assist in planning experimental designs and designing research standard operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include tasks that contribute to the maintenance of lab operations such as placing animal orders and detailed record keeping. Required Qualifications Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience Experienced in a laboratory setting, with previous experience with animal physiology, dissection and harvesting of small sample size cell populations and basic molecular biological methods and specially with large gene analysis from scRNA seq. Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD with major courses in Molecular Biology, Physiology, and computer science. Experience in mammalian cell culture and in vitro cell line research, medical school courses. Additional Details Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. May require some weekend hours. Work will be performed on the Marquam Hill campus in the Hatfield Research Center on the 4th floor.
