ABOUT THE FREEMAN CORPORATION The Freeman Corporation is a 100+ year family-owned wood veneer manufacturer based in Winchester, KY. We continue to invest heavily to be the supplier of choice to the top producers worldwide of flooring, doors, hardwood plywood, furniture, cabinets, and other industries. We employ approximately 200 people. POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our lean accounting and finance team. This is a unique opportunity for a driven professional ready to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a planned leadership transition and will be mentored directly by our retiring Chief Financial Officer. Over the next 18 months, the Senior Accountant will be trained to assume full responsibility for the Controller position. As part of this transition, the CFO role will be eliminated and its responsibilities strategically redistributed across the organization. The Controller will take on the key accounting leadership responsibilities, with no new CFO position planned. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Prepare and analyze accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP * Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entry preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and expense analysis * Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger and ensure all transactions are properly recorded * Manage and maintain the fixed asset register, including tracking additions, disposals, and calculating depreciation * Support cost accounting and inventory reconciliation * Assist with local, state, and federal tax filings as well as other regulatory reporting to ensure compliance * Support a wide variety of administrative projects required at a small to medium-sized business * Collaborate with operations and leadership on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting * Contribute to process improvements and system upgrades * Shadow and learn from the outgoing CFO, gradually assuming supervisory and strategic duties including: 1.
