ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Amentum provides client-oriented solutions across our environment, energy, and defence businesses. With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle-from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We offer opportunities for significant career advancement, attractive remuneration, and flexible working, as well as leadership and client relationship role development.
We are seeking a client-facing Senior Ecologist with environmental impact assessment (EIA) experience. The successful candidate will work alongside geoscientists, waste managers, geochemists, and safety case consultants in high-hazard industries. We are keen to hear from you if you have a recent background in the development of Habitat Regulation Assessments and Digital EIA.
You will deliver work across Amentum’s environment, energy, and defence businesses, contributing to complex projects and supporting clients in high-hazard industrial settings.
This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Below are the qualifications and experience that we’re seeking in applicants. We understand that not everyone will meet every single requirement, so if you believe you have most of the relevant experience and strong potential to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you.

  • EIA Leadership: Minimum five years’ experience supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments for chemical, oil and gas, petrochemical, and waste management operations (or other high-hazard industries).
  • Education: A degree in zoology, botany, marine sciences, geosciences, atmospheric chemistry, geology, ecology, or an equivalent field.
  • Professional Qualifications: Chartered Ecologist, Environmentalist, Scientist, or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Additional Knowledge (not required): Familiarity with at least one of the following: air quality management, noise abatement policy/legislation, or dispersion modelling for terrestrial and/or marine environments.
  • Communication & Problem-Solving: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle challenges and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel, including potential overseas site visits, in support of project requirements.
