This is an exciting opportunity to join the Young People’s Team as a social worker. Social workers in this team play a key role in helping young people who are leaving care to transition into adulthood and young people who are remaining with carers on a continuing care basis. Social workers in this team also support children and young people who have arrived in the UK who are unaccompanied and seeking asylum.

JOB DETAILS

Social workers in this team work creatively to support young people, adopting a range of approaches, including direct one to one work and group work. You will be involved in the assessment and management of risk and need, supporting young people to engage with a range of supports available in their communities and empowering young people to become active and responsible citizens.
You will support young people to develop the skills, knowledge and networks they need to live interdependent lives. You will deliver support that is trauma informed.
You will work closely with young people to ensure they are safeguarded where there are complex risks and needs.
You will support young people to navigate the asylum process in the UK and support the implementation of the UASC Strategy in Fife. You will also contribute to work which will support the implementation of the Promise in Fife.
You will be responsible for supporting planning for young people and work collaboratively with a range of multi-agency partners to achieve positive outcomes for young people and families.
You will perform a pathway co-ordinator role to young people leaving care or seeking asylum in the UK.
You will attend a wide range of meetings where you will be responsible for communicating clear assessments and supporting the development of SMART plans.
You will provide financial assistance to young people in line with entitlement and Fife Council’s procedures.
The position will involve lone working and require an ability to travel throughout Fife.

THE PERSON

• Educated to SCQF Level 10 with an honours degree in social work.
• Experience of working with young people leaving care or young people seeking asylum.
• Experience of both child and adult protection processes.
• Knowledge of, and skills in, using IT and basic audio-visual technology and/or be enthusiastic about developing these.
• Organisational skills, ability to manage and prioritise workload, experience of making effective decisions.
• Ability to evidence continuous professional development
• Ability to be innovative and be creative.
• Team working skills (work together)
• Ability to travel throughout Fife.
