Description

NDSC (National Disability Support & Care) is seeking experienced, compassionate and reliable Disability Support Workers to join our growing team, supporting clients in their own homes in the Greenbank and Ipswich areas.

At NDSC, we believe great support is about much more than completing tasks. We focus on building genuine, respectful relationships and providing individualised support that promotes independence, recovery, choice and quality of life.

We are currently recruiting for roles supporting clients with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), complex disability and dementia, and are particularly interested in Support Workers with experience in these areas.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on the individual client and their support needs, your role may include:

  • Providing respectful, person-centred personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Supporting clients to maintain independence within their own home and community.
  • Assisting with meal preparation, household tasks and establishment of consistent daily routines.
  • Supporting community access, appointments, recreational activities and social engagement.
  • Supporting clients with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) through a compassionate, recovery and rehabilitation-focused approach.
  • Implementing prescribed daily exercises, therapy activities and rehabilitation strategies as directed by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals.
  • Following individualised support plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) and using consistent, positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Providing calm, respectful and responsive support to clients experiencing cognitive, behavioural or emotional changes.
  • Supporting people living with dementia, including maintaining familiar routines, promoting independence, providing reassurance and responding appropriately to changes in cognition, memory and behaviour.
  • Assisting with medication support or reminders in accordance with individual plans and organisational procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with families, allied health professionals, clinicians and the broader support team.
  • Completing clear and accurate progress notes, documentation and incident reports.
  • Observing and reporting changes in a client's physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioural presentation.

About You

We are looking for Support Workers who are compassionate, dependable and genuinely interested in providing high-quality, individualised support.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or an equivalent/relevant qualification.
  • Previous experience working within disability, community care or aged care.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), particularly within a rehabilitation or recovery-focused, in-home and SDA environment – highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting people living with dementia – highly desirable.
  • Experience implementing therapy programs or exercises prescribed by physiotherapists, occupational therapists or other allied health professionals.
  • Experience working with Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) and an understanding of positive behaviour support principles.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
  • The ability to encourage independence rather than simply completing tasks on behalf of the person you support.
  • Strong communication, observation and documentation skills.
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach, particularly when supporting people experiencing cognitive or behavioural changes.
  • The ability to follow established care, rehabilitation and behaviour support plans consistently.
  • A positive “can-do” attitude and willingness to actively engage with clients.
  • The ability to work independently while communicating effectively with families, clinicians and the wider support team.
  • Reliability, flexibility and a genuine commitment to helping people achieve meaningful goals and maintain quality of life.
