JOB SUMMARY

Royal Navy Family and People Support (RN FPS) is an integral part of Navy Command’s People Support Organisation offering a range of specialist services to Naval Personnel, their families, and wider military communities across the UK and Overseas. RN FPS has four key priorities of Deployment Support, Visiting Officer role, Crisis Intervention, and Safeguarding. These are achieved via our 3 Pillars of Delivery being, Casework, Community Development and Outreach, and Information Support.
The Community Development Worker (CDW) must be professionally JNC qualified and will be expected to ensure that professional policy and practice is maintained in the delivery of local community projects and are responsible for the delivery of the four key national community pillars: Youth work, Play work and Youth Forum work, local Deployment Support Events (DSE) and national Forces Families Events (FFE), Volunteers, and Partnerships.
The Professionally qualified JNC Community Development Staff will be part of a national team Working from the Naval Air Station at Yeovilton, providing support to the National Community Development Manager, in the delivery of community work projects in order to achieve the aims of the Organisation.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Community Development Worker (CDW) will support the Community Team in the delivery of local and national projects, including Youth work, Play work and Youth Forum work, local Deployment Support Events (DSE) and national Forces Families Events (FFE), Volunteers, and Partnerships.
An essential element of the role will be to work directly with other agencies and potential users to initiate, develop, maintain and deliver a range of provision, including building-based and outreach work. This involves face-to-face and on-line delivery with members of the community, during daytime, evening, weekend and holiday periods.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Candidate should provide evidence of experience of Play, Youth & Community Work, Integrated Working, Assessment and Evaluation, Presentation and Briefings, Project Management and Delivery, Volunteer Development, understanding of Risk Assessments
  • Technical confidence as a JNC Qualified practitioner in Youth and Community Work in accordance with Professional Occupational Standards, be confident in the use of MS Office including, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word.

NATIONALITY REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Initiate, prepare and review community profiles, and action plans, and prioritise work with families and community groups in the area.
  • Programming, planning and evaluating of events and activities within the community, ensuring risk assessments and health and safety requirements are met, demonstrating the event provides value for money. This will include collation of data and analysis to support future projects, both local and national.
  • Supporting the the Volunteer project ie: managing volunteer placements, and output, including supervision, training, meetings and liaison with RNRMC, relevant VC’s, and local agencies/departments
  • Maintaining networks and partnerships within the 3rd sector and MOD representing RN FPS at Community Partnership Working Groups and within Local Authority.
  • Professional guidance within AOR to the Chain of Command, welfare staff and key stakeholders, for the delivery of play, youth work and community development.
  • Provide direction, and support to those in your direct line management, as required, in accordance with existing RN FPS Processes.
  • Day to day administration of the community projects, health and safety compliance, financial and record keeping in relation to designated provisions, and advising line management on these matters.
  • There will be a requirement for staff to travel to other regions of the UK for training and meetings.
