ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Private Sector Housing Project Enforcement Officer to join our team and play a vital role in improving housing standards within the private sector. If you have a passion for public service, housing quality, and building safety, this is an excellent opportunity to make a tangible difference in our community.
You’ll consult, negotiate, and advise a wide range of professionals and members of the public, using your knowledge to inspect properties, gather evidence, and produce clear, professional reports with informed recommendations. Strong analytical skills are key—you’ll be expected to assess complex building and housing situations, review tenders, and prepare witness statements where necessary.
Working independently and as part of a team, you’ll manage your own workload and contribute to service improvement projects. Strong time management, excellent written communication, and the ability to use IT systems confidently are essential.
You should have in-depth knowledge of building construction, housing standards, and enforcement procedures within local authority settings. A qualification in Environmental Health (EHO, EHP, or CEHP) or equivalent professional experience is required. You’ll also need to be physically able to conduct thorough property inspections, including accessing roof and loft spaces using ladders, and must be able to travel throughout the borough daily.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
