Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: Dilkon Medical Center - Dilkon, AZ 86047 Position Type: Full-Time Education Level: Associate Degree Travel Percentage: Occasionally Job Shift: Day Under general supervision of the Director of Public Health, assists the Environmental Health Specialist in implementing a comprehensive Environmental Health Program, including the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvements, ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies and requirements for WIHCC, Inc., Uphold the principles of WIHCC’s Vision, Mission, and Value Statements. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information at all times. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Maintains regular attendance and punctuality. Dependable in attendance and job performance. Obtains and maintains Food Handler training (FHT) certification for the service population of WIHCC, Inc. Coordinates Food Handler trainings routinely, seeking available resources entailing basic food handler’s curriculum in line with proper authorities to develop public presentation skills for education and certification. Familiar with the Indian Health Service website and Food Handler training program. Coordinates Food Handler’s training quarterly within the WIHCC, Inc. surrounding sites. Prepares information brochures and related handouts on training locations, dates, times, and other pertinent information and distributes at Chapter Houses and clinical locations for public awareness. Maintains chain of command in reporting findings of concern either through investigations or as report. Obtains and maintains certification for Safe Kids Worldwide Safety Campaign as nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) and will provide training for users of child passenger seats including proper installation into the vehicle. Evaluates community water supplies, wastewater treatment facilities and solid waste disposal sites and systems. Assists Environmental Health Specialist with planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive environmental health program at WIHCC, Inc. Develop and deliver environmental health training. Analyzes data and prepare technical reports and give recommendations. Works independently to provide on-site environmental health. Works in a collaborative team environment with flexibility to adapt to organizational needs. Provides consultative assistance related to environmental health concerns both internally and externally. Provides environmental health education to staff and communities. Becomes familiar of available resources including industry standards & protocols. Conducts environmental health evaluations of chapter houses, headstarts, daycare centers, tribal and public school food services, and foster homes. Participates in infectious disease surveillance activities by collecting samples and transporting to laboratory services per protocol. Monitors suspicious rodent colonies/populations or ecosystems. Adheres to recognized standards and protocols and if findings are outside of responsibility, forwards to higher level of responsibility as indicated and documents accordingly. Adheres to basic Environmental Health principles and maintains awareness of current trends affecting community health. Investigates environmental health complaints in a timely manner. Adheres to standards of the Environmental Health industry as defined by the Navajo Nation Department of Health, Navajo County and State of Arizona. Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent. Adheres to WIHCCs Personnel Policies and Procedures, departmental policies, rules, and regulations. Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity. Maintains compliance with all Human Resources requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in field such as Applied Science, Biological Science, or Public Health. Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, or Public Health is preferred. At least two years working experience in environmental health related industry preferred. Bilingual skills in English and Navajo language preferred. Must maintain a valid unrestricted and insurable driver’s license. Must successfully pass a background investigation and maintain suitable requirements for a Child Care position. This position is considered as a Child Care position, which requires a satisfactory background check investigation and is subject to the requirements of the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, as amended (henceforth referred as the ICPFVP Act). Knowledge, Skills, Ability Knowledge of understanding of laboratory, technical and field equipment. Knowledge of basic concepts, principles, methods, and techniques of environmental health, and an understanding of how epidemiological investigations are developed and conducted. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies. Knowledge of fundamentals of disease control through sanitation and purification. Knowledge of recordkeeping and report preparation practices and techniques. Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace. Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality.
