Description

The Christie NHS Trust’s Digital Service welcomes applications to this Digital Trainer role. The right person for the role would be passionate about digital skills training and willing to make a positive difference in our digital training delivery.
This exciting opportunity is to cover a 12 month maternity leave within the Digital Service Transformation team. The postholder will be responsible for creating high quality training and delivering training courses using several platforms to suit the learning styles of our staff. Ensuring all staff using the systems required to fulfil their job roles efficiently and effectively.
You will educate all staff to effectively utilise new technology which may directly, and fundamentally, alter their existing roles in a rapidly changing environment. This can result in staff feeling insecure within the organisation and within their role. The challenge is to influence their attitude toward Digital in a positive way and support them successfully through the changes.
The right candidate will have a proven track record in training development and delivery to staff of all levels with key skills in developing high quality training materials. This is a very exciting time for our team as we support the Trust on its Digital Transformation Journey, and these roles are pivotal to our success.
The ability to travel to all sites where The Christie offers services will be required.
The post holder will be integral to the Trust’s implementation of Clinical and Non-Clinical system developments, primarily by undertaking the development, planning, preparation and delivery of end user training sessions and materials for system developments, Basic IT Skills and common MS Office programs, under the guidance of the Digital Transformation Team.
They will assist with the realisation of benefits identified from the introduction of the new solutions by delivering high quality training on complex systems which are
themselves evolving in terms of functionality. This is a critical role in ensuring the Trust can function, as failure by staff to achieve competency will result in their inability to perform their given role.
Working closely with Business Analysis team, project managers and development colleagues, they will identify the impact of changing processes on the development of training courses and materials.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
Training Responsibilities
1. Devise and perform Training Needs Analyses as appropriate.
2. Develop lesson plans, eLearning materials and training syllabuses for training sessions
3. Assist in the preparation and management of all learning resources, facilities and materials for all digital skills and training.
4. Carry out training on all Trust systems. Carry out ongoing refresher and update training as required.
5. Use complex equipment, e.g. the Training Database or Digital Learning Solution, to produce complex reports on staff training.
6. Train staff utilising advance computer skills proven through the acquisition of qualifications such as ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) or its replacement (NHS Elite), or CLAIT (Computer Literacy and Information Technology).
7. Identify additional investment requirements in training materials, venues, personnel or other resources such as additional PCs, laptops, and provide reports to that effect to the Training Team Manager or Training Manager.
8. Responsible for updating and signing off attendance and “chasing” DNAs to ensure rebooking and attendance.
9. Use the information from training records to determine the competency of individual users post training.
10. Take the lead in providing training, coaching and support to staff identified as “SuperUsers”, in agreement and liaison with the applications team.
11. Manage own workload in terms of timetables, training programmes and timely reports.
12. Cope with an unpredictable and fluctuating workload. For example, when a new development is due to be rolled out, large groups of staff will need to be trained in a short timescale; at other times, training numbers may be smaller and need to be managed on a 1-1 and/or ad hoc basis.
13. Adapt training style and materials according to the group dynamic. This will involve being able to identify and analyse a wide ranging level of abilities, from non-PC users to near-expert users, and adapt the training accordingly and appropriately.
14. Provide appropriate informal and additional formal support to any staff member experiencing difficulty to successfully complete their training. This may necessitate the development and agreement of learning contracts with individuals.
15. Cope with difficult situations in the training environment, dealing with complex questions and problems relating to the training aims, materials and IT equipment being used. Referral to a senior member of the team may be required.
16. Ensure that all training delivered adheres to and promotes staff legal and ethical responsibilities i.e. Data Protection Act, Health & Safety, Freedom of Information, Clinical guidelines relating to use of computers (MRSA), Care Records Guarantee and local policies (including System Access and Security, Use of Smartcards)
17. Ensure that other learning tools and aids are produced and/or provided as appropriate e.g. Quick Reference Guides
18. Assess any risks, issues or follow-up actions identified during and following any training course delivered.
19. Analyse course feedback and take appropriate action.
20. Ensure that training courses are adapted and developed taking into account the work of the wider digital teams and also other Trust teams to ensure co-ordination with all relevant Trust key initiatives e.g. Information Governance, Health & Safety etc., thereby meeting the needs of the all end users and the Trust.
21. Liaise with the applications team, software engineering team, data engineering teams and projects teams to support the testing of new solutions and to ensure own knowledge of digital systems develops in line with trust developments.
22. Ensure that all IT equipment used during training is set up and used safely and appropriately, moving and installing equipment which will include PCs, printers and other presentation equipment.
23. Ensure training venues are reserved, set up with appropriate IT equipment and that the need for any other relevant facilities are taken into account, which may need considerable physical effort.
24. Actively support Go Live for projects by ‘floor-walking’ and providing user assistance.
25. Support the digital teams during the deployment of new developments.
Business Change/System Configuration Responsibilities
1. When not undertaking training responsibilities, provide support and facilitation resource to Business Change with particular respect to the review of “as is” and “to be” processes and their impact on future training.
2. Undertake testing of complex equipment to ensure “fit for purpose” when training or rolling out across the Trust, e.g. Wristband printers, training PCs, laptops.
3. Identify areas that may need upgrading or adaptation to suit the requirements of the trainees, and suggest solutions or changes that are required to carry out such upgrades or adaptations.
4. Be actively involved, through the delivery of training, in the implementation and management of process change across the organisation
5. Build knowledge base of process flows to enable provision of “best practice” advice during training courses and in training materials. Suggest changes that may improve team working practices and procedures.
6. Provide input to the usability testing scripts to incorporate business change components and to ensure that the system will reflect the operational needs of the patients and the Trust
7. Be involved in post-implementation business change audits to ascertain lessons learned and provide support to the revision of processes and training as required
