Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (Clinical) as a member of the Contract Academic Staff based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Medicine (DOM) is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The JGH is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The JGH Division of Geriatric Medicine is a dynamic group of Royal College Geriatricians and Care of the Elderly Family Physicians. The group provides high-quality patient-centered care for patients with acute and complex chronic medical conditions. The Division’s current areas of clinical activity include geriatric consultation services in the ER and on all inpatient units in the hospital. The Division cares for approximately 50 inpatients on a daily basis, including 28 on the acute care Geriatrics ward. The outpatient clinics include the Geriatric Assessment Unit, Memory Clinic, Falls and Fracture Prevention Clinic, and the Senior Oncology Clinic. The Division of Geriatrics is a leader of the hospital-wide AAPA (Approche Adaptée aux Personnes Agées) and HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program) programs. All members of the Division play an important role in teaching of medical students, residents, and geriatric fellows. The Division of Geriatric Medicine has always demonstrated strong commitment to the community; as such, the successful candidate will continue to foster strong community ties.

The successful candidate will be a transformational leader who as Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital will have a demonstrated record of success in academic performance and leadership with an ability to transform existing programs given the evolving clinical needs of our patients and the rapidly evolving Quebec healthcare system. The successful candidate will fulfill administrative responsibilities for the Division as it relates to the institution, the university, and the Quebec government.
The incumbent will draw on their strong interpersonal skills to inspire best practices and innovation. They will take a high performing Division to the next level of clinical and academic excellence. It is expected that the successful candidate will provide strategic direction, driving and fostering advancements in patient care, research, and teaching excellence within the Division. The incumbent will also spearhead and promote independent and collaborative research, mentor and guide a team of dedicated professionals, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient-centered care, and fulfill administrative responsibilities at the institution.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
• Have completed subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine;
• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
• Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
• Have leadership experience;
• Demonstrate academic accomplishment in Geriatrics research and teaching;
• Have clinical expertise suited to tertiary hospital settings;
• Have experience in training students, residents, and fellows in clinical settings;
• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
