Description Duties: The mission of Immigration and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) Legal Services is to provide direct legal services to diverse vulnerable community members through a multidisciplinary team with Immigration Law, Disability Law, and Family Law units. The Senior Paralegal is part of the Immigration Law team and provides quality, trauma-informed services in support of, and supervised by, attorneys. Duties: Support a Lead Immigration Attorney and other attorneys in providing legal services representing clients in defensive and affirmative cases, including: Removal defense: defense against deportation, including the filing of Asylum/Withholding of Removal/Cancellation of Removal/Motions to Change Venue/Prosecutorial Requests/SIJS predicate orders. Affirmative matters: including naturalization, adjustment of status, temporary protected status, asylum, family petition, VAWA, U & T visas, and employment authorization. Daily communications and meetings with attorneys, clients, staff, and USCIS regarding ongoing cases. Conduct legal research and draft legal briefs and other documents for attorneys. Investigate and gather facts for cases, petitions, and applications. Record case management data in physical files, OneDrive, and LawLab in accordance with laws, industry standards, and in-house procedures; and assist in compiling data for program reporting as needed. Obtain U visa certifications, police records, court records. Submit FOIA requests to CBP, USCIS, Department of State, and the FBI. Assist in creating educational materials about immigration processes and rights for staff and the public. Assist with other immigration legal services projects and duties as assigned, such as attending and assisting at local in-person legal clinics organized by IRCO. Requirements Minimum Requirements: Associate’s degree, or foreign educational equivalent, in Paralegal or Legal Studies; and 2 years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant, to include the following, which may have been gained concurrently: 2 years of immigration experience in a non-profit legal services setting. 2 years of experience supporting attorneys in both affirmative and defensive immigration matters, including removal and related defensive applications, asylum, U & T visas, VAWA, deferred action, naturalization, adjustment of status, family petitions, and employment authorization. 2 years of experience preparing immigration-related application and petition forms and supporting documents for immigration court and USCIS filings, including I-589, I-360, I-765, N-400, I-485, I-821, I-589, I-730, and I-130. Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed immigration legal services to vulnerable communities.
