JOB SUMMARY The Security Officer II/Emergency Preparedness Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Tribal assets, personnel, and visitors while managing emergency preparedness initiatives. This role involves operating a central dispatch system for Tribal departments, including public works, housing, and behavioral health, while also patrolling Muckleshoot properties and monitoring security camera screens. The position includes a daily split shift between dispatch, patrolling, and monitoring duties. The Specialist answers the main security line, dispatches other officers, writes incident reports, and is considered a mandated reporter for any safety concerns regarding Tribal members. The employee must be available for emergencies and live in close proximity to the Tribe (within 15 miles of the chimney). MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operate central dispatch for the Tribe, routing calls to public works, housing, and other departments. Answer the main security line and dispatch other security officers to respond to incidents. Patrol Tribal properties for 4-hour shifts in a security vehicle, ensuring the safety of all assets. Monitor security camera screens for 4-hour shifts, identifying suspicious activities and incidents. Respond to dispatch calls, including emergencies, accidents, and security breaches at Tribal facilities. Ensure all Tribal buildings are secured, particularly during swing and graveyard shifts. Assist law enforcement or emergency services when necessary to resolve security or safety issues. Conduct routine inspections of security systems, cameras, and other equipment to ensure they are functional and properly maintained. Write detailed incident reports following any accidents, security incidents, or suspicious activities. Complete FEMA online courses and ESF trainings for Communications/Mass Care & Sheltering as required by Tribal emergency preparedness protocols. Serve as a mandated reporter, ensuring concerns regarding the safety of Tribal members are reported to the appropriate authorities. Assist with security at Tribal events, ensuring the safety of attendees and property. Coordinate and lead response efforts during Tribal emergencies, including evacuations and sheltering operations. Conduct regular checks of emergency preparedness plans and ensure that they are up to date with Tribal safety needs. Work during emergencies that may affect the Tribe, including providing support during shutdowns or extreme weather events. Maintain confidentiality. Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities. EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION Required: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: Six months of security-related experience Experience in emergency preparedness or dispatch operations SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION Skills: Skilled in dispatch operation and communication systems. Writing clear, concise, and detailed reports. Knowledge of security patrol procedures and protocols. Proficiency in emergency response and preparedness techniques. Competent in using two-way radios and security equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office for documentation. Ability: Ability to operate dispatch and emergency systems effectively. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations. Make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations. Communicate clearly with officers and Tribal members. Work independently, handling multitasking in high-pressure situations. Ability to work collaboratively with security teams and other departments. Knowledge: Knowledge of security and emergency response protocols. Familiarity with dispatch systems and communication protocols. Understanding of FEMA and ESF training standards. First Aid and CPR certification knowledge. Understanding of emergency preparedness best practices for the Tribe. Familiarity with report writing and recordkeeping for security incidents. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The employee must be able to sit for extended periods during dispatch and monitoring shifts and must have the physical endurance to patrol Tribal properties on foot or in a vehicle for 4-hour shifts. Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds is required. The role includes frequent use of hands and fingers to operate security equipment, radios, and dispatch systems. The employee must possess good vision and hearing to effectively monitor security activities and respond to emergencies. The work environment includes moderate to loud noise levels, particularly during outdoor events or when using radios. In emergencies, the employee must work in various weather conditions and be available for extended shifts, including overnight and during Tribal emergencies. Self-transportation to and from Tribal facilities is required, especially during emergency situations.
