The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team and lead the clinical management of infection prevention and control on a locality basis. As an expert practitioner and a key member of the infection prevention and control team will reduce the incidence of infection through risk assessment, audit, intervention and education. To respond to incidents and outbreaks of healthcare associated infection or urgent enquiries that take priority and require immediate action and reformulation; however, the post holder must be able to refocus and reprioritise existing work commitments.
The post holder will provide expert, clinical advice on all matters relating to infection prevention and control. This will include working and liaising with senior clinicians and managers, , Acute and Tertiary care settings, specialist staff groups and all staff involved in the planning and delivery of clinical services and facilities in accordance with the Hygiene Code.
The post holder will work as a highly visible member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff, patients and carers in a variety of care provision settings to promote and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
The post holder will be responsible for infection prevention and control to community services within KCHFT jointly with the other IPC team members.
The IPC team consists of 5 clinical specialists supported by a surveillance lead, an FFP3 fit tester and a full-time administrator. The band 7 clinical specialists are directly supported and line managed by the lead nurse for IPC and indirectly by the assistant director of IPC. The IPC team provide an on-call service which all of the clinical specialists participate in.
No line management responsibility however following training there is an expectation that the individual will undertake one designated appraisal and personal development plan review a year.
