      This position is created specifically for the 2026 Canada Summer Jobs program. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the supervision of the Manager, Recreation and Volunteer Services or Supervisor, Recreation, the Recreationist – Geriatrics is responsible for providing assistance to all areas within the department including, but not limited to, Recreation Programming, Special Event Assistance, 1:1 Programming, Outdoor Activities.   MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: * Assist with recreational programming in the Village * Offer one to one visits and support to reduce social isolation amongst our older adults * Assist residents to outdoor programming such as games, walking, gardening, outdoor concerts * Assist residents with getting to and from exercise classes * Assist with the therapeutic gardening program  * Encourage residents to participate in the recreational events * Be part of welcoming our new admissions into the home * Assist Recreation Aides with scheduled trips and outings * Other tasks as needed QUALIFICATIONS * Post-secondary education in progress in Recreation and Leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.   * Excellent communication, social and interpersonal skills * Sensitive and compassionate to older adults and age related changes in a health care setting * Creative and open to new ideas * Can work independently and in a team environment * Proficient in Microsoft Office What youth participants are eligible?  To be eligible, youth must:  * be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;  * be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,  * have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.  *The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.  **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. Duration and hours of work Jobs must be full-time (30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week). If a youth is provided less than 30 hours of work for any week, their wages may be deemed ineligible for reimbursement unless consent has been granted from Service Canada for exceptional circumstances (e.g. to accommodate persons with disabilities). Wage $17.60/hour (minimum 30 hours up to 37.5 hours/week)
