An unprecedented world-class partnership of two major aluminium industry pioneers - Alcoa and Rio Tinto - led to the 2018 formation of ELYSIS. Through this joint venture with the government of Québec, ELYSIS is working to scale up this technology so it can be fully commercialized.
The ELYSIS™ technology eliminates all direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the aluminium smelting process and is the first industrial process that emits oxygen as its by-product.
ELYSIS has demonstrated production of commercial purity aluminium for end users ranging from Apple to Audi, and is being designed for the construction of new smelters or to retrofit existing ones.
The ELYSIS™ technology also brings additional advantages, reducing the operating cost of a smelter and boosting metal production from the same size-smelting cell.

• Promote and apply the organization’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) principles, with a proactive “zero by choice” mindset
• Conduct research aimed at developing or improving processes, chemical reactions, and products
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with research centers
• Assess materials and chemical processing techniques to determine production specifications
• Design, test, and implement chemical process equipment and related systems
• Establish and manage quality control programs
• Thoroughly document processes, technical procedures, and findings
• Collect and analyze production data, interpret results, and propose practical solutions
• Provide technical support to production teams to resolve process-related issues
