Mission for this Position At Baffinland, we work and live beyond the Arctic Circle, mining iron ore at our Mary River property. Located in the Qikiqtani Region on Baffin Island, Nunavut, it’s one of the world’s most captivating and seldom seen destinations and we are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with our company. Our leadership team has amassed specialty experience on northern mining projects from community consultation and permitting, through to operation. Our workforce brings together the modern practice of safe, sustainable mining and the enduring value of a traditional culture, which is rapidly advancing. The result is a work and community experience you won't find anywhere else. Reporting to the Project Geologist, the Field Technician (fixed term) works closely with other Field Technicians, Geologists and consultants to conduct geologic investigations and sampling programs. This role will also will provide support to the rest of the Exploration group as needed in the field. This role may require work outdoors, potentially in inclement weather conditions. The job can be physically demanding and it may require walking long distances, lifting of objects up to 23 kg/50 pounds and helicopter travel. This role will be offered as a fixed term. This is a site base role on a 3 week in and 3 week out rotation. Main Accountabilities 1. Adhering to Baffinland’s standard operating procedures, and following the sampling guidelines laid out by the logging geologists, split, sample and pack drill core for shipment to an off-site analytical laboratory for further analysis. 2. Aid the Exploration team in the processing of core by assisting with the movement of core boxes through the workflow of logging, splitting, sampling, shipping of samples and storage of core. 3. Assist the Geologists on prospecting and mapping traverses with the collection and transport of sample material for eventual shipment to analytical laboratories4. Assist Exploration personnel with the performance of drill site inspections, downhole surveys, etc.5. Assist Exploration personnel with the preparation of sample shipments to off-site analytical laboratories. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive. Other duties may be required. Main Qualifications High school diploma is an asset Fire Arms Certificate (FAC) or Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or the ability to acquire one is required.
