About the Role The Multifamily Property Accountant will manage full-cycle accounting for a multifamily portfolio (typically 6-8 properties, based on experience), owning the month-end close, financial reporting, and owner communications end-to-end. Why This Role Stands Out Direct exposure to ownership groups and leadership Opportunity to influence processes and help scale a growing company High-visibility role with real impact on portfolio performance Collaborative, team-oriented culture with strong internal support Key Responsibilities Portfolio Financial Ownership: Own full-cycle accounting for a multifamily portfolio Serve as primary financial contact for property owners and internal stakeholders Present complete property financial performance and respond to complex inquiries Month-End Close & Reporting: Lead month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Prepare and deliver monthly financial packages (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, rent roll, and variance analysis) Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all reporting Operational Accounting: Oversee bank/credit card reconciliations, AP/AR coordination, and GL maintenance Validate rent rolls, track collections, and monitor property-level performance Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Process Improvement & Collaboration: Identify and implement process improvements and reporting efficiencies Help develop SOPs and scalable accounting workflows Partner cross-functionally with operations and leadership Requirements 2+ years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 1 year in non-HOA multifamily property accounting Strong expertise in accrual accounting, month-end close, and property-level financials Experience with platforms such as AppFolio, Yardi, Buildium, Caliber or similar Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data organization) Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines, and manage multiple properties Strong communication skills with experience presenting financials to non-finance stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Experience preparing financial reports, communicating complex financial data, and providing clear explanations to non-finance stakeholders, including property owners or asset managers Background in process improvement, SOP development, or system optimization Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) is a plus!
