Description
Senior Grain Trader Have you already built a book and a reputation in grain trading — and are you looking for the scope, ownership, and freedom to take it further? Do you thrive on turning market insight into profitable trades, and on building the kind of long-term relationships that outlast any single deal? Are you the person others on the desk turn to when a trade gets complicated? If so, we should talk. GSL is an agricultural commodities trading business that buys, sells, and organizes the transport of grains and cereals across North America and beyond. Established in 2009 in Montreal as part of McGill St Laurent, we've built our reputation on quality service, entrepreneurial grit, and a commitment to a more efficient and sustainable food system. As we grow, we're looking for a Senior Grain Trader to run and expand a book of business — and to help set the pace for the desk around them. What you'll do Own and grow your book. Originate, negotiate, and execute grain purchase and sales contracts across North America and export markets — driving volume, margin, and long-term profitability. Read the market. Analyze supply and demand fundamentals, basis and freight movements, and macro trends to identify and act on opportunities ahead of the competition. Manage risk. Monitor positions, exposures, counterparty and credit risk to protect margins and trade with discipline. Optimize logistics. Work hand-in-hand with Logistics and Operations to move product efficiently by rail, truck, and vessel, and to keep every trade executing smoothly. Build the relationships that matter. Deepen ties with producers, buyers, and freight partners, and represent GSL at industry conferences and trade shows. Lift the desk. Share market insight and hard-won best practices that raise the whole team's game, and mentor newer traders as they build their own books. Help shape how we trade. Contribute to desk strategy, sharpen the way we work, and play a central role in how the team grows over time. What we're looking for 3+ years of experience in grain (or agricultural commodities) trading, with a proven track record of building and running a profitable book. Trading experience across both buying and selling is preferred. Driven individuals with an origination or merchandising background who are looking to transition to trading will also be considered. Strong origination and negotiation instincts — cold calling and relationship building are second nature to you. Sharp commercial judgment: comfort with market data, basis and freight economics, and disciplined risk management. A natural mentor who leads by example and enjoys developing the people around them. Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine sense of ownership. Fluent English, written and oral (essential); French and/or additional languages (asset). A diploma/degree in agriculture, business, economics, logistics, or a related field — or equivalent experience (asset). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commodity trading systems. What we offer Uncapped commissions (and a competitive base salary — to confirm) that reward the book you build. The freedom to run your business like an entrepreneur, backed by the resources and reputation of an established platform. Full group insurance and the opportunity to contribute to an RRSP program. A vacation policy that starts on arrival. A public transit incentive program. Real investment in your development — formal and informal mentoring, participation in industry conferences and trade organizations, French tutoring, and more. An entrepreneurial, team-first culture that rewards initiative. Curious about us? Grain Trader at GSL & McGill St Laurent. If you're ready to take ownership of a book, shape a desk, and grow with a company that values initiative, teamwork, and excellence — this is your opportunity. Apply today. #GSLGrain
