Primary objective

Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of sexual assault services in the form of education, training and capacity building across

the Barkly region.

Context statement

The Health Promotion Officer – SARC works within Primary and Public Health Care (PPHC) Barkly Sexual Assault Referral Centre

(SARC) team providing specialist educational and health promotion activities within Tennant Creek and the surrounding remote

communities.

Coordinate and facilitate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence based health promotion and

community development programs with a multidisciplinary team setting.

2. Develop measurable health promotion goals and objectives based on assessment of needs and assets in partnership with

stakeholders to plan culturally appropriate health promotion activities in remote communities.

3. Provide education and training to Department of Health (DOH) Staff on the use of culturally appropriate resources to assist in

delivering the SARC program.

4. Provide education and training to Department of Health (DOH) Staff relating to sexual assault reporting processes and

education.

5. Work in collaboration with the DOH workforce to support community based workers to facilitate the planning, implementation

and evaluation of sexual health promotion activities.

6. Provide strategic advice and contribute to the development and delivery of Primary Health Care services, strategic health

promotion policies and workforce planning.

7.Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in education/training, group work, community development and capacity building as

it relates to sexual assault services and prevention activities.

2. Demonstrated knowledge in planning, implementing and evaluating community based health promotion and community

education programs and activities in remote aboriginal communities.

3. Sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary health promotion, Primary Health Care and community development

principles, theories and frameworks, and an application of that knowledge to build capacity of the health and community

workforce.

4. Facilitation of group discussions, consultation and negotiation with aboriginal people particularly in remote communities.

5. Demonstrated knowledge of the Northern Territory (NT) Health system, and relevant strategies and policies.

6. An ability to interact with people from diverse cultures.

7. Hold a current NT manual driver's license or the ability to readily obtain and have the ability to travel to remote communities

by 4WD or light aircraft for extended periods of time.
