Make a huge difference to children with complex respiratory needs in the community?
An exciting opportunity has arisen, to develop a new service within Tameside and Glossop Children’s Community services, including in reach to the children’s ward at Tameside General Hospital.
The post holder will provide a highly specialis t Respiratory Physiot herapy service to children referred to the integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs ( ISCAN ) Respiratory Physiotherapy service , taking responsibility for the planning, co-ordinating , delivering and evaluati on of the service . The service will be provided in the community setting , such as patient homes, schools and health centres , as well as providing an in-reach service to the children’s ward .
To act as the sole respiratory PT within the ISCAN team , providing expert advice and guidance and undertaking audit and research.
To be responsible for devising appropriate clinical guidelines and patient pathways related to respiratory PT as agreed with the Team Lead and Pathway Lead.
To be accountable for the implementation of these guidelines and patient pathways within the respiratory PT service.
To use advanced clinical reasoning to provide an accurate diagnosis of a child’s condition.
To be responsible for the safety and welfare of children, colleagues , and self during the treatment period, in accordance with professional standards and health and safety regulations.
To manage children with complex respiratory, neurological and general medical related disorders and have the ability to recogni s e the need to refer to other health professionals and agencies eg Paediatricians and Social Care and to seek advice from more senior staff when needed.
To offer evidence-based therapy .
To provide on-going reassessment and evaluation of response to treatment and adjust goals and SMART targets accordingly.

To work as part of the ISCAN Team to provide respiratory PT assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children referred to the service in a variety of settings including special schools, the child’s home and clinics. This will include utilising highly specialist clinical skills including manual therapies to assess, treat and manage children presenting with complex respiratory, neurological and general medical related disorders.
To carry out procedures such as suctioning, to respond immediately and appropriately to any adverse situations that may arise in response to these procedures.
To be the named lead for the ISCAN children’s respiratory PT service and to devise and implement appropriate clinical guidelines and patient pathways related to this area. To contribute to the development of policies and procedures, which will impact on other professionals working in children’s communit y and the acute setting.
To use advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking to support assessments and management.
T o work collaboratively with partner agencies and other health services.
To be the main point of contact within your specialist area for professionals.
To maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and national changes in legislation.
To undertake audits, research projects and quality improvement projects to enhance/improve clinical practice. To make recommendations to ISCAN Team Leader for changes to practice. Implement specific changes to practice, where agreed with the ISCAN Team Leader. To lead others in this work as agreed with the ISCAN Team Leader.
To participate in staff meetings and integrated team development meetings. To lead team meetings when delegated by the Team Leader.
To manage a caseload of clients, using evidence based/client - centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To be accountable for own caseload .
To work closely with the integrated team to set joint goals with the child and family . To teach the recommended airway clearance plans to parents, carers and educational staff .
To be responsible for maintaining own records of intervention in care pathways and for completing own contact data , in line with Trust policies.
To be accountable for own clinical actions, ensuring adherence to professional code of conduct.
To co-ordinate and attend relevant clinical meetings plus meetings in other settings, eg schools.
To organise and lead client - related meetings as appropriate , eg Person Centred Planning (PCP) or Early Help Assessment (EHA) meetings.
To recognise the need to work with interpreters or bilingual co-workers as appropriate .
To contribute to the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice by providing timely and detailed reports and advice that comply with departmental guidelines.
To maintain timely , accurate statistics and other records as requested by the service and the Trust.
To provide specialist reports and discharge summaries as relevant.
To provide written reports to a variety of agencies detailing the progress of interventions.
To demonstrate an ability to negotiate in the management of conflict .
To be an integral member of the ISCAN Team, representing Physiot herapy and providing advice to other professionals
