We’re looking for a Mechanic Assistant / Landscape Technician who can support equipment maintenance in the shop while helping keep our grounds clean, safe, and beautifully maintained. From assisting with preventative maintenance and minor repairs to planting, mowing, and landscaping projects, this position plays an important role in keeping operations running smoothly and our property looking its best. SUMMARY Support the Mechanic and landscape departments with prioritization of projects, repairing and performing preventative maintenance and keeping work area clean, orderly and safe. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Positively impact revenue by assisting the Mechanic on duties and repairs internally and efficiently. Strengthen core processes for performing preventative maintenance on all FSFA equipment. Also assist lawn maintenance needs by checking all fluids on equipment and making repairs as needed. Support a high level of quality, safety and cleanliness of the shop while also assisting with minor repairs in the shop, noting major defects, safety issues or problems, and discussing matters with the Mechanic. Supports a beautiful landscape environment by ensuring proper quality of care of plant life, including all planting, fertilizing, trimming of trees and hedging of shrubs, planting flower beds and setting up flowerbeds, and mowing grass areas. Ensures a high level of grounds protection/policing by collecting, loading, hauling trash and cuttings. Operates manual and powered grounds keeping equipment while following all safety measures. Supports department by assisting in various landscaping projects. Supports additional needs for any light housekeeping or custodial duties as necessary. Perform other work-related duties as needed. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent required. One to two years of experience working as an assistant mechanic or in commercial driving role, highly preferred. Minimum of six months experience in lawn maintenance required. Two or more years of experience highly preferred. Valid driver’s license required, must have reliable transportation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong ability to perform basic repair of all types of equipment and knowledgeable in general mechanics Ability to work well independently and as part of a team Positive attitude and ability to follow instructions Good writing and communication skills Working knowledge of safety requirements involved with operation of required tools and equipment Ability to operate mechanical and powered equipment used in grounds maintenance Strong ability to perform well in a changing work environment, including being exposed to the outdoors and in inclement weather Ability to work flexible hours and overtime when needed PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Rarely duties are performed in an office setting. Operates computer and standard office equipment, such as telephone and copier/printer. Must have ability to stand, sit, hear, taste/smell, use hands, walk, talk and reach with hands and arms. Also need to have the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch, climb or balance, and frequently lift or move more than 20 pounds. There is occasional exposure to environmental demands including wet/humid weather, being exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures (non-weather). There is also work near mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
