General housekeeping, liaising with Trust colleagues, exchanging information within guidelines, reacting and responding accordingly where any ad hoc duties arise. It is vital that the post holder is aware of the Trusts Patient Confidentiality policy and adhere to these at all times. Flexibility towards working pattern is required from the post holder, including early start and late finish times and occasional weekend work. To be available to meet specimen deliveries at the lab, check, tag and store specimens in freezers.
To be available to set up workstations, instruments and specimens for courses and teaching sessions. To clean and decontaminate all instruments according to relevant procedures and return to appropriate trays. All lab furniture, equipment and floor to be cleaned and decontaminated after every lab session. Ensure power tool batteries are fully charged and instruments kept in serviceable order Arranging the respectful, safe and legal disposal of cadavers as per HTA and local regulations.
To deliver a quality service to users of the Bioskills laboratory in a professional manner. Ensure the application of privacy, dignity and compliance of confidentiality when undertaking responsibilities. To maintain accurate and complete documentation to support compliance with HTA governance, local standard operating procedures and other relevant quality standards. Responsible for the preparation of the bioskills laboratory for cadaveric workshops.
Responsible for maintaining and ensuring equipment used is fit for purpose. Responsible for managing consumables stock levels and ordering accordingly. Responsible for the co-ordination, receipt and putting away of deliveries. To actively participate in the development of local standard operating procedures and audit of practice.
To assist surgeons with pre-dissection of cadaveric tissue in preparation for teaching purposes. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the Bioskills Laboratory including removal and cleaning of surgical areas, tissue and bodily fluids. Responsible for maintaining the quality of cadaveric tissue through appropriate cleaning and understanding of the freeze/thaw process. Responsible for the legal disposal of spent specimens in accordance with HTA and trust waste policies.
Responsible for cross referencing paperwork relating to cadaveric tissue, checking serial numbers correlate to specimens and infectious diseases screening checks have been carried out and are acceptable for lab use
